Gabriels Lesson Plan 1 Reflection

Lesson Plan 1 Reflection

This lesson went really well! Both Kyle and Dan were excited to go into the hall with me to work on something. Starting the lesson out on a positive attitude is always motivating and encouraging. Both Kyle and Dan stayed focused and were excited to move on to the next letter. They both began to tell me what letter came next, even before I put the alphabet note card down. Kyle and Dan were also both very respectful to one another. When the letter N came on the table, Kyle didn’t know what sound it made. Dan was able to tell me the sound N makes, and then said “Kyle N sounds like this! And then proceeded to tell him words that began with the n sound. “Napkin, and Nice, and no! No starts with a n sound Kyle!” This was really encouraging for me to see. I love when students help one another in a positive manner and really encourage each other.

I believe the major strength in my lesson was the worksheet that allowed them to be creative and gave each students freedom to write and draw whatever they wanted (words that started with the letters that we covered). I could tell that they comprehended the letters and their sounds by the pictures that they drew. I could also tell that they enjoyed this because they were very excited to share not only with each other but with me as well. They both kept saying “Miss Gabriels look at my B picture!” Creating a lesson that students enjoy is encouraging and rewarding, which is why I felt it would be beneficial to continue this lesson two days later. As a teacher for this lesson, I noticed that students really should be allowed to be creative within lessons. I am currently taking a class that incorporates creative dramatics into the classroom and how beneficial it is to allow students to be creative and be able to express themselves within their learning. I found that to be true within this lesson. I hope to be able to think of fun and engaging activities that my future students can participate in, in the future.
